Software developer, full-time remote, small team, environment is pleasant/stable

Compass Education Group

Do you enjoy working on a small team where you can have a significant impact? Are you willing to push new initiatives forward in addition to maintaining legacy systems? Do you do your best work in an environment with sane timelines, a stable roadmap, and colleagues who appreciate your input? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

We have a smooth-running application which runs every aspect of our education business. Our "Compass Points" web-based data management system connects office staff, tutors, and clients in a paperless environment, handling client intake, communication, billing, testing, and feedback. Instructors have an online center for lesson scheduling, notes, timesheets, and payroll. The core of this system is built on .NET technology but is being modernized incrementally through Node APIs and React frontends. We also recently built and deployed an iOS app written in Swift that better allows our instructors to manage their schedules and students on the go. A client portal and a WordPress site ( round out the key systems that we currently maintain.

As we grow, so does our need for new systems, functionality, and content sites to serve our internal users, external clients, and the broader test prep community. We seek to leverage modern technologies wherever possible while acknowledging that pragmatic approaches and stability are also critical to our success.

You would be part of a small full-time Scrum team on the development side, collaborating regularly with stakeholders including the leaders of our operations, product/curricula, and marketing teams. We are growing our team and its capabilities at a steady, deliberate pace.

We are looking for a software developer who is curious, adaptable, organized, and focused on doing more with less. Quality and thoughtful software design should be foremost in your mind. Our ideal candidate has strong front-end development experience and an intuitive design sense. Prior experience with and an interest in further developing your server-side development skills is highly desirable. Qualified candidates will have a strong foundation in the following:

  • Source Control / Git / Github
  • HTML / CSS / Sass / Boostrap / Responsive Layout
  • Client-side Javascript / React
  • RDBMS (SQL Server preferred but relevant experience will suffice)
  • Some server-side development experience in Node.JS, .NET, Ruby, Java, or similar
Your academic pedigree is unimportant to us. We care about your skills, whether you're pleasant and dependable as a colleague, and whether you're productive in an environment with a lot of autonomy.  Full-time telecommuting is perfectly fine (we have remote team members in the northwest and the east coast), or you could be based out of either our Beverly Hills office or our Larkspur office in Marin County in the Bay Area.
